El Caminito del Rey, one of the most spectacular and dangerous trails in the world. It has been closed for 25 years, built in the Gaitanes Gorge in Malaga, it has been reopened to the public.
The visit to the Caminito del Rey will be free for the locals, to access it will be an essential requirement to make a prior reservation through the internet.
It will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, never at night, the use of a helmet will be mandatory. The estimated time to complete the entire route, just over 6 kilometers, is three hours and is conceived as an active tourism activity, that is, it involves some physical effort.
The Caminito del Rey is already an international attraction and it can become one of the most important icons in the entire province of Malaga due to its spectacular nature.
The investment in the rehabilitation of this path has amounted to 2.24 million euros. The rehabilitation of the Caminito del Rey began on March 13, 2014 with a technique similar to that used by the employees of the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro between 1901 and 1905. The workers hang themselves from the wall of the gorge to install the wooden sections and fix them to the rock.
The aerial path has been remodeled with pieces of wood and metal anchors drilled into the rock. Some sections have a glass floor so that visitors can see the gorge and also the old walkway, which has been installed as an example of architectural archeology.
We recommend the photographic report of Victor Ganin where you can appreciate the beauty of the road:
