The dough is a mixture of rice, wheat and sorghum flour. It is made without preservatives, saturated fat or dairy. Sorghum crops need much less water for their production.

Its expiration is three years under the right conditions.

The edible cutlery is able to last up to 20 minutes submerged in the liquid.

The company tells us that the manufacturing process is very efficient, since they can make 100 edible spoons of sorghum with the same energy that is needed to make a single plastic utensil.

The CEO of the company is Narayana Peesapaty, a researcher at the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics.

They currently sell 1.5 million spoons a year in India, but interest from foreign countries has increased and they could not serve them. So they were funded through a kickstarter campaign, achieving a resounding success with 9,293 backers.
