Eight is a mini- hydroelectric plant that has a turbine to convert the movement of water into energy. The mechanism is inserted in a plastic screw cap that creates a kind of luminous hourglass with the water that flows between the PET bottles. It is a design that contributes a positive influence to our habits and that can be used independently of any other source of energy. A small hydroelectric power station in your hands.
Kerem Ali Asfuroglu is the designer of this ingenuity. Although it cannot be purchased yet because it is not manufactured in series, the designer tells us that there will soon be news in this regard, they are working to be able to manufacture and market it shortly.
When water begins to flow from one bottle to the other by gravity, Eight converts the kinetic energy to light for a time, depending on the amount of water and the size of the bottle. It not only provides light but also provides a unit of time measurement just like an hourglass.
When the water has passed from one bottle to the other, we will simply turn it over and it will start to generate light again. Refraction in the water and the shape of the bottle increases the light.
There are various colors of LEDs to allow users to customize their fixture. Eight’s cap is universal in size, compatible with different sizes of PET bottles from 0.5 to 2.5 liters, giving users the flexibility to use different types of bottles.
A 2-liter bottle can provide up to 15 minutes of light, and after like an hourglass, you can flip it over and start over.
