In the middle of the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is one of the most original hotels in the world, in perfect harmony with its surroundings, the Montaña Mágica Lodge. From the top of the hotel an inexhaustible course of water constantly rises, thanks to which a green cover has been formed on the entire facade of the hotel.
It is built with woods from the area, worked by artisans from the nearby communities of Neltume and Puerto Fuy. It has 12 rooms, which are lined and decorated with local woods. In addition to this hotel there is another in operation and several under construction, all of them with the same environmental philosophy, ideal for a sustainable vacation.
Huilo Huilo is a “private natural reserve” that is part of an area declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2007. It is located in the town of Neltume (Chile), a town with a logging tradition, on the shores of Lake Pirehueico in full Patagonia. With about 60,000 hectares of native forest, natural hot springs, lakes, waterfalls and direct access to the Mocho Choshuenco volcano . An ideal area to escape from mass tourism.
Despite this Unesco declaration , curiously it lacks legal protection for its conservation and is administered by the owners of the lands that compose it, who sustain them through a series of economic activities in the natural reserve, thus taking care of their protection and development. Thanks that the owners have opted for activities that take care of and promote the conservation of nature because if not, this impressive place would surely be on the brink of environmental ruin. In any case, the position of the Chilean government is curious.
But its offer of services is not only made up of hotels. There are alternatives for all tastes and budgets. There is another way to travel. There is a campsite with 22 sites. Just meters from this area are the Cabañas del Bosque, fully equipped and with capacity for 4, 6 and 8 people. Another possibility to live this natural experience up close is that of the Canopy Village, small houses installed in the trees – five meters above the ground – whose windows make it easy to observe the birds. They have a basic equipment consisting of tables, cots and sleeping bags.
A ranking prepared by the My Science Academy site highlighted Montaña Mágica Lodge in Huilo Huilo, in the Los Ríos region, as one of the 21 “incredible hotels” that tourists from all over the world must visit before dying.
