One of the most fascinating aspects of recycling is transforming the simplest or most useless material into a new form and a new use. I loved this idea from Eleanna Kotsikou to make something out of toilet paper rolls. So I decided to share it with you. It is an easy and fun project with an impressive end result !!!
- About 20 empty rolls of toilet paper.
- Marker pen.
- Glue or hot glue gun.
- Black paint.
- Black acrylic paint.
Step 1. Preparing the toilet paper rolls.
Fold the empty toilet paper rolls. You have to crease them along two opposite edges without completely flattening the center. Repeat the folding process for all rolls except one.
Once the rolls are folded, use the ruler to mark both folded edges at 2.1 cm intervals. This will divide the roll into five equal parts.
Cut the rolls at the marks.
The end result will be to have about 100 petal-shaped strips. It depends on how many you want to use to create the lamp.
The petals should be sharp at the edges with the center curved, as you can see in the picture. It is also necessary to cut an additional strip of the same width (2.1 cm) from the paper roll that we have saved.
Step 2. Glue and shape the lamp.
Now, place the container upside down on your work surface. We are going to use the container as a base; the shape of the cup will help you shape the lamp.
The starting point is to form a flower on top of the mug.
Now in the upper part of the lamp you already have the shape of the flower. Well done!
Start by gluing more petal-shaped strips to the design. You just have to add the strips between two already existing ones. It is not necessary to follow a precise pattern. Keep gluing pieces and filling in the gaps to make a pretty design. You can even add two petals between two existing ones.
Secure everything with clothespins until they are well attached. Take into account the shape of the cup, so we will achieve the curved shape.
Add petals to finish the lamp design. The bottom edge does not have to form a straight line. On the contrary, the more asymmetrical it is, the more original the design will be. So improvise and when you are satisfied with the result, let it dry. If you used the hot glue gun, clean the lamp by removing excess glue.
When the lamp is dry, it is ready to be painted. A black or metallic color works best for this project, but it is your decision, you can choose.
Use the brush and a little black paint to correct any stains or corners that have not yet taken the color, so we will have a perfect final result.
The lamp is now ready to hang. To do this, pass the cable through the center hole of the screen before installing it on the ceiling. You can use some clear fishing wire or string to attach it to the cable. Set it slightly higher to avoid direct contact with heat. Remember to use an LED bulb so that its consumption is very small !!! In addition to avoiding possible problems with heat.
And voila, you already have a beautiful recycled lamp ready to use !!!
