Jeep intends to electrify the entire range by 2022 and become “ the greenest SUV brand ” on the market: this was stated by President Christian Meunier during the Australian launch of the Gladiator pick-up, which, ironically, is diesel only .
At the moment the manufacturer has introduced Compass and Renegade hybrid variants, they will be on the road in 2020. Meunier says there will be hybrid models and even some 100% battery-powered electric models.
In the last 10 years, Jeep has grown a lot, increasing its sales five times compared to 2009. The company believes that in the electrification process it will be able to expand even more. Not only that: the goal is to expand beyond the off-road, which has always been its reference segment. In the words of Meunier, who spoke of “on-road” and “all-weather”, we can imagine that in the future more urban SUVs will arrive.
Jeep is part of the FCA Group, which will soon also include the PSA Group. Electrification works have been underway for some time. The company has reached an agreement with Enel X for recharging, and the Turin battery development center will come into operation next year. Meanwhile, the FIAT 500 hybrid appears to be close to its debut, while the 100% electric version is expected to arrive in 2020.
