Today, May 9, the second edition of the Solar Car Fair begins , where teams from all over Chile will exhibit the prototypes that will participate in Carrera Solar Atacama 2012 on November 15 in northern Chile.
The activity seeks to bring together the exhibiting teams with businessmen interested in energy development, in order to seek sponsors and raise the necessary resources to finish building their solar vehicles.
For the General Director of Carrera Solar Atacama, Leandro Valencia, “ in recent times, solar energy has acquired great relevance in Chile, which is why Carrera Solar Atacama has attracted the attention of several companies, including Minera Collahuasi, Rockwood Lithium and SQM, which are already supporting the development of the competition ”.
Those attending the fair will be able to see the vehicles, learn about solar energy and enjoy live exhibitions. There will also be solar tricycles competitions that will have the participation of authorities and television faces.
The event takes place within the framework of the International Technology Fair and the VI Renewable Energies Meeting, and will be attended by the Minister of Energy, Jorge Bunster; the Minister of the Environment, María Ignacia Benítez, and the Executive Director of the Renewable Energy Center, María Paz de la Cruz, among other authorities and local and international businessmen.
The 2012 Race
This year, the La Ruta Solar Corporation organizes the second version of Carrera Solar Atacama (formerly Atacama Solar Challenge), a solar car competition that was held for the first time in October last year, with the presence of 11 solar vehicles (between tricycles and cars) that covered 1,060 kilometers in 3 days of competition, passing through Iquique, Calama and Antofagasta.
In this new version, four days of competition are contemplated, adding a new stage in San Pedro de Atacama, completing a total of 1,286 kilometers to travel.
The organization invites all interested to build their solar car and be part of the energy event of the year.
