The 10 Most Efficient Cars For 2017

According to the website Fueleconomy.gov, run by the US Department of Energy, the ten light vehicles with the most efficient use of fuel are nine electric vehicles and a plug-in hybrid.

Fuel efficiency in an electric vehicle is measured in miles per gallon equivalent, or MPGe, where 33.7 kilowatt-hours of electricity equals one gallon of gasoline.

The electric Hyundai Ioniq, with a combined MPGe 136 city / highway tops the list as the most efficient model for 2017.

We found 3 vehicles tied for fifth on the list – the Fiat 550e, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and the Nissan Leaf – at 112 MPGe.

The BMW i3 REX, an extended-range electric vehicle, has a gasoline / electric combined city / highway rating of 88 MPGe.
