It is a project for the democratization of energy, through the installation and maintenance of a wind turbine with the capacity to generate electricity for 2,000 families.
Viure de l’aire.
An initiative developed by the Industrial Engineer Pep Puig. It emerged in 2009, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the installation of the first wind turbine in Catalonia in Baix Emporda.
The proposal consisted of buying a wind turbine with 100% financing from individuals. In addition to the private contribution of hundreds of investors, they have obtained a loan from Som Energía for one million euros.
The wind turbine was installed in December 2017 and in March 2018 it was connected to the grid to start generating electricity. He settled in Pujalt, in the Catalan region of Alta Noia, Barcelona due to its good wind conditions.
Wind turbine characteristics.
The most important characteristics of this wind turbine are:
- Enercon E-103 EP2 model.
- Specially designed to offer great performance in low wind areas.
- 2.35 megawatts of power.
- It can produce 5653 MWh / year.
- It can produce electricity to supply 2,000 homes.
- Avoid the emission of 6,000 tons of CO2.
A new model for the generation of private electricity.
All the people who contributed to the initial investment will receive their benefit. Once the accounts are closed, the net income is distributed, discounted expenses, in proportion to the investment of each participant.
Each investor is expected to recover the capital contributed and obtain an average return of 2.3% per year, throughout the useful life of the wind turbine (25 years).
For the development of the project, the company Eolpop SL was created , which will be responsible for executing and issuing participatory accounts to create shared ownership of the wind turbine. You will even have to manage sales and energy contracts, machine maintenance and insurance.
They currently have 610 investors, who have contributed more than € 2,800,000. The money has been contributed by individuals, small and medium-sized companies.
